Retro Digital Dashboards [Vol.1]
As a child of the 80's I grew up fascinated by digital dashboards. There was so something so powerful in this era and how it portrayed "the future". In particular, I find the concept cars of this era to be some of the most crazy and beautiful in all the decades automotive design.

In my spare time, I decided to animate & model some of the most rad digital dashboards ever made...

1988 Chevrolet Corvette
In 1984-1988 the corvette featured this incredible three part LCD dash.
Sadly, later models have reverted back to analogue gauges due to reliability issues and mixed reception.

1985 Mazda MX-3 Concept
Unveiled at the Tokyo motor show, this concept car sported a host of technological innovations.
In particular that jetfighter steering yoke. Too bad we had to wait 30 years for it to appear in a production car.
I don't believe that the digital dash was ever fully functional. so I just had my fun with it.

1984 Nissan 300 ZX
The calculator green and the grid background make this one of my favorite digital dash implementations. it just screams 80's.

1985 Citroen BX Digit
I've always loved 80's era Citroens. back in the day they were not afraid to experiment, and they have created some of the most fascinating cars and interiors ever made.
little did I know that the Citroen BX had this amazing digital dash variant for a limited time.

1982 Lancia Orca Concept
Crafted by the famous Italdesign, this is the king of over the top 80's dashboards - and in my opinion absolutely glorious. I could not find any videos of this in action anywhere , so I took some liberties with bringing it to life.

Lamborghini Athon \ Volvo Tundra Concept
The Lamborghini Athon was a concept car designed by Bertone, circa 1980.
Strangely enough, while I was looking for more references for the Athon's dashboard, I ran into the Volvo Tundra - which seemed to share the exact digital dash layout. fun fact- while the Volvo tundra was rejected by Volvo and never went into production - the concept was later sold to Citroen, and was the basis for the iconic Citroen BX (featured above)

Thanks for looking!
